Immature Girl Child Marriage

Child marriage is the formal marriage of children who are below 18 years of age. The Indian laws prohibits marriages where either the girl below 18 years of age or the boy has not attained 21 years of age. It is a big problem in Indian society as the whole life of children, especially the girls, get disturbed due to this evil problem. Child marriage is a major social issue. Though an ancient practice, this custom is still prevalent in many parts of India, especially the rural areas. Child marriage is related to child betrothal, and it includes civil cohabitation and court approved early marriages after teenage pregnancy. In many cases, only one marriage-partner is a child, usually the female. Causes of child marriages include poverty, bride price, dowry, cultural traditions, laws that allow child marriages, religious and social pressures, regional customs, fear of remaining unmarried, illiteracy, and perceived inability of women to work for money.

Importance of Growing More Trees

Franklin D. Roosevelt rightly said, “A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Trees and forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.” The present condition of trees and forests in the world, especially developing countries is pathetic and miserable. Trees are the source of life. They are the giving angels. They give man oxygen, rains, wood, fruit, make the world look so beautiful, yet the sinister man kills them! Who will be more inhumane than man himself? Cutting of forests ultimately endangers man’s own existence. Most of the world oxygen that the animal species including man inhale is produced in the tropical rainforests. More than half of the world's estimated 10 million species of plants, animals and insects live in the tropical rainforests. They are important to the environment as they recycle water and regulate levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through photosynthesis. They are the world's full-time regulators of air and water. Their cutting will disturb the natural water cycles which will lead to the shortage of fresh-water in the water reserves of the world. Cutting of these trees has had a negative effect on the environment. It has resulted in an increase in the amount of carbon and other greenhouse gases in the environment. Burning of these forests has resulted in the emission of a large amount of carbon dioxide into the air. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases like the oxides of nitrogen and methane are known to trap atmospheric heat, thus increasing the average temperature of the Earth's surface. This increase in the temperature near the Earth's surface and oceans is termed as global warming. The only solution to world’s or any region’s problems lies in planting more trees. All the problems of air pollution, soil-erosion, floods, global warming exist because of lack of trees. The West Bengal government has launched various mass tree plantation drives to tackle the above-mentioned problems in the state.

Use & Abuse of Mobiles

We all carry a mobile phone or a smartphone with us. It helps us to communicate with our relatives or friends who are not near to us physically. The invention of the mobile phone is a great success of science. Though the main uses of the mobile phone are to make calls or to send messages, it can also be used in multipurpose tasks. In addition to calls or messages, the mobile phone can also be used as a calculator, camera, voice recording device, audio and video player etc. one can browse the internet on his/her mobile phone. No doubt mobile phone has changed our lifestyle, but there are some abuses of the mobile phone, or we can say that there are a few disadvantages of mobile phones. A recent survey reveals a dangerous data that more than 35% to 40% road accidents are caused due to uses of mobile phones while driving across the globe. That is really a serious problem. Again, some students misuse the mobile phone and give way to social pollution. On the other hand, the radiations emitted by mobile phones and its towers are very harmful to our health. In the conclusion, we must admit that there are both uses and abuses of the mobile phone. But mobile phone plays a vital role in the development of our civilization. It should be used properly or in a proper manner.

Student Duties

The students constitute a great potential force capable of leading a nation to great heights of progress or abyss of decadence. No wonder every nation spends crores of rupees for their education and proper development. The future of every nation depends on their students. The primary duty of a student is to learn and acquire knowledge. Their main duty consists of improving their intellect and widening their mental capabilities. Unfortunately, many students forget this goal and spend their school days uselessly enjoying and idling away their time. Only later they realise the result of their folly. Students are the guardians of society. It is their duty to fight against all evils existing in the society. They have tremendous responsibility to see that injustice, inequality, oppression, exploitation, corruption, criminalisation of politics, communalism, casteism, misuse of public money, etc., are done away with. Students have great strength to oppose these evils of society.

A Book You Have Recently Read

My most favorite book is Pather Panchali by Bibhutibhunit Bandyopadhyay. I have read ii times without count. Every time I read it; I find new joy out of it. It is a modern classic in Bengali literature. Apu and Durga are the eternal brother and sister of a Bengali family. The hardship of the life of a poor Bengali villager is vividly described in this novel. The descriptions of Nature are also brilliant. Bihubati bhusàn was a great lover of Nature. By the magic touch of his pen the trees and creepers seem living. I can almost smell the flowers in the wood and visualize the village paths. I also feel for the characters like Sarbajaya the mother, and Indira Thakrain the grandmother. Satyajit Ray has made the story of Pather Panchali world-famous by his great film. When I saw the film for the first time, I thought it was in many ways different from the novel. But when I saw it for the second time, I corrected my mistake. The film had to be different because it was made by a camera. Bibhutibhusan made his novel with words. Pather Panchali is full of sentiment and has a universal appeal. Even after seeing Satyajit Ray’s film, I find joy in reading the novel. It is an immortal book.

Importance of Saving Drinking Water

Air and water are among the most important need of the living organisms to be alive. A day without any of these basic requirements is very difficult to imagine. Only 0.1% water is in the drinkable state for the whole biosystem. It is because of the pollution and degradation of the groundwater that the whole ecosystem is under the danger. Drinking water is being scarce and hence, there need to initiate certain steps to stop wastage of water. Water constitutes of the 70% of the human body. One can live without water a full day but the body needs 7-8 glasses of water every day. The process of digestion and filtration is only possible if we consume a lot of water every day. The working capacity of an individual gets slower and it lowers down if the whole day the person didn't consume water. The efficiency and the productivity of the person decreases and the body becomes weak. Hence, we need to save the water in order to save our lives on the earth. The government has initiated many steps to control and stop water pollution. It is also the duty of the citizens to put their efforts too, to save water.
